15th Discussion meeting in Harmonic Analysis

(In honour of Professor S Thangavelu who has turned sixty in 2017)

The first discussion meeting on harmonic analysis (DMHA) was organized by Professor M. G. Nadkarni at the University of Bombay in 1988. It had a very small budget and around 25 participants. The meeting was a great success and the participants decided to have a meeting once every two years at different locations across the country. The vision of that initial group was to have a meeting of all practitioners and students of harmonic analysis in the country, where they would be able to present their work, and discuss new developments in the subject. As participation in the biennial meeting has grown over the years, their vision has been realized. The core of a DMHA is a series of lectures focusing on one theme, by an expert in one of the promising fields. The DMHAs are intended to be accessible to mathematicians at the beginning of their career.

The 15th discussion meeting in harmonic analysis will be held at the Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, from 18th of December to 21st of December 2017. The thematic lectures will be given by Professor Andrei Lerner (Bar-Ilan University, Israel) titled

Sparse bounds and sharp weighted inequalities

Abstract:
The celebrated A_2 theorem (proved by T. Hytonen in 2010) states that the weighted L^2 norm of a Calderon-Zygmund operator is linear in terms of the A_2 characteristic of the weight. Later, a relatively simple proof of this theorem was found that was based on a domination of Calderon-Zygmund operators by positive dyadic operators called the sparse operators. Since then, sparse operators (and corresponding sparse bounds) have become quite popular in Harmonic Analysis. In more than 30 works appeared in the last two years, sparse bounds have been established for a number of operators in various settings. In this series of talks I plan to give an overview of this subject and to discuss sparse bounds for Calderon-Zygmund operators and their commutators, and for rough singular integrals.

The 15th DMHA is jointly organized with Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad
