Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Turbulence

August 2007 - July 2008

Nonlinear Dynamical Systems and Turbulence constitute important areas of mathematical research. Moreover, they can be applied to a wide variety of areas ranging from physics to biology to engineering. Given this wide applicability there is a great need within the country for persons well trained in nonlinear dynamical systems and turbulence and their applications.  This need is felt not just in the academic community but also in various national laboratories.

Given the above situation, it was thought appropriate to devote an entire year of the activities of the IISc Mathematics Initiative to this area. Since the mandate of IMI is to propagate areas which lie at the interface between mathematics and other subjects, the areas of nonlinear dynamical systems and turbulence fit in perfectly.

As part of the thematic programme, we plan to organize seminars, compact courses, workshops and conferences, etc.
