Nature of the program:

In the Internet era, availability of voluminous amounts of data in a variety of disciplines such as Machine Learning, Natural Language processing, Finance etc have given rise to optimization problems of unprecedented scale. Increasingly, optimization for large-scale statistical analysis and conversely, statistical approaches for numerical solution of large-scale optimization problems have hence become popular. This summer school is an attempt to bring together leading researchers in the area of large scale optimization to give a tutorial overview on specialized topics. The summer school will do a refresher course in Continuous Optimization followed by tutorial introduction to Advanced topics.
