Birch and Swinnerton - Dyer Conjecture
Abstract :

In number theory, various artimetical properties hold the key to the solutions of many problems. These properties are believed to be intrinsically encoded in certain zeta functions defined using the geometry of the underlying object. Among such relations, the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer is considered as the most remarkable one. This conjecture relates the special value of the Zeta function associated to an elliptic curve to various arithmetic invariants of the curve. In this talk we shall give an introduction to this conjecture, indicate its importance and mentioned some of the recent developments.
