This talk will be a very elementary introduction to the subject of special values of L-functions. This subject has its origins in a classical formula due to Euler that the
sum of reciprocals of the squares of all positive integers is The aim of the talk will be to introduce Deligne's conjectures on the special values of certain kind of
L-functions. I will end the talk by mentioning some work in progress, which is joint with Freydoon Shahidi.
