Research
The department is active in research in most areas of pure and applied mathematics, including algebra and number theory, analysis, discrete mathematics, geometry/topology, mathematical finance, numerical analysis, partial differential equations, probability, representation theory, and time-series analysis.Teaching
The department has a Ph.D. programme as well as an integrated Ph.D. programme. The department participates in the undergraduate programme of IISc: undergraduate students can opt for mathematics as a major or a minor.- Courses

AI for Math Fund's Grant
Prof. Siddhartha Gadgil has been awarded one of the opening grants (2025) of the AI for Math Fund, offered by Renaissance Philanthropy. The award is for LeanAide, which aims to bridge AI and Mathematics with Autoformalization.
