Regularity of the Solutions and the Free Boundary in the Composite Membrane Problem |
| Abstract | : |
The composite membrane question is to build a
body of prescribed shape, and ofprescribed mass, with materials of varying
density so as to minimize the first Dirichleteigenvalue. It naturally leads
to a free boundary problem. The regularity of the freeboundary is connected
with monotonicity formulae, that make their appearance in severalareas of
Geometry: minimal surfaces, Poincare conjecture and harmonic maps to name
afew. We will present such a regularity theory. This is joint work with Carlos Kenig. |
